Rain check

Today has been a day of two halves. Needed to drop the Comedy Car at the garage first thing. I realised that neither of my headlights were working.

Of course I realised this when I needed to drive half an hour home in the dark! That was interesting. I was able to get home using my sidelights and fog lights. Not my best look!

One bulb had gone. The other was out cause the wires had melted. Who knew that could happen?!

Still I now have two working headlights. And a road legal car again.

While I waited for it, I got a tad wet at the yard. But at least I got all the jobs done I wanted to. Including cleaning the lorry.

Came home feeling decidedly snotty. It was inevitable that the past few weeks caught up with me. So I took a raincheck this afternoon and flopped on the sofa watching a film.

Fingers crossed tomorrow is a better day. Let’s hope the sun shines and the rain (and snot) stays away.

Gorge

Well it’s not every day that you get a 50kg bale of haylage in your car?! The Comedy Car did good again. There was a bit of creaking on the way home.

Buddy will be a very happy boy when he sees this! I may need to ration it though so he doesn’t gorge himself on it. The camp countdown has begun. Off tomorrow and can’t wait!

Let’s hope this is enough haylage to get through 3 nights camp and a night at the Champs. It’s going to be a very busy week…

Air freshener

This is the sign of an equestrian for sure. Most of us have carried some form of feed or bedding in our cars. Made me laugh as I was driving along.

This one had an added bonus of smelling really nice. Definitely an improvement on the usual horsey / musty smell of The Comedy Car. Hoping this smell will last a few days. Who needs an air freshener?!

So vane

Spotted this weather vane on my way to collect The Comedy Car. It’s so cool. I’ve always wanted a weather vane, but not had a house that would suit one. It took a while to get the photo as the wind was whipping it about. Got there in the end. It was rather windy.

The Comedy Car has a new shiny tyre. And I took advantage of having The Buddymobile at home to give the living and the cab a good clean out. It’s amazing how dusty and dirty it gets.

Guess I’ll have to clean the inside of The Comedy Car. And the outside of The Buddymobile. Then both my vehicles will be shiny. And yes, those jobs are on the list…

Nature

I saw this quote today and it made me smile. I’m definitely an outdoor girl. After being ‘grounded’ yesterday, today it was lovely to be out and about again.

Dropped The Comedy Car off at the garage. Picked up The Buddymobile instead. Grateful that I have alternative transport – even if it’s a bit more of a challenge to park.

After meetings and cracking through my to-do list, I sat on the conservatory steps to drink my coffee. There was some warmth in the sun but the wind had some bite to it still. It filled my soul, that’s for sure.

I headed to the yard to meet a friend and her two daughters. They wanted to see Buddy. They helped me poo-pick his field (child labour at its finest). Gave him a lovely groom. Then came for a wander with us round the field. So lovely to be able to share my love of horses with them.

Horse person

I’m back home from my trip South and the joy that is the M25. As I drove back, I played tag with a rather swanky horsebox. I say tag. It overtook The Comedy Car twice (work that one out) and I then followed it through the Dartford Tunnel before it turned off.

As a kid, I used to look out for horses on road trips. Now I look out for horse lorries and trailers too. With the lorries, there is a bit of market research in a way. There are some very lovely lorries indeed. At the moment there’s a bit of champagne taste on beer budget. But it’s fun looking. It makes me smile seeing other horse people on the road.

Wacky Races

The Buddymobile needed to go into the garage today. As the garage is about a 40 mins drive away, I needed a lift back. So Colette followed me in The Comedy Car.

Let’s face it neither of my vehicles are designed for speed. But it did make me laugh seeing The Comedy Car in my wing mirror.

It reminded me whacky races as we drove along. I do love both of them though. You can’t help smile in both.

Size matters

I took The Buddymobile into the garage today to get the battery issue fixed. I also had a bit of a list of other things that I wanted them to look at while it’s there. You know the silly little things that annoy you after a while.

One thing I needed to do was change the gas bottle. This has been on the ‘to do’ list for so long, Calor Gas have discontinued it. I kid you not. So I’ve had to change to Flogas.

Simple right?! Of course not! The Flogas bottle is bigger than the Calor Gas bottle. So while it will fit in the lorry locker, it’s too big to go through the door and turn. So they’ve got to cut a new door though the bench / bed so it can go in that way. I can feel a strongly worded email coming on…

On the plus side, I did get a reduction on the new bottle price at the camping place. And I finally took The Comedy Car through the handcar wash.

That’s also been on the ‘to do’ list for a while. The poor man tasked with cleaning it asked if I work on a farm. No, I have a horse. He was very grateful he didn’t have to clean the inside. 😂

Fully charged

Early start for me as I had to take a horse to the vets (not Buddy). The Buddymobile wouldn’t start again. Even though I moved it yesterday for easy loading. And left it running for a while.

Wasn’t sure if I needed a new battery. If something is draining it. Or the cold affecting it.

Jump started it from the Comedy Car. That made me laugh. My big lorry being jumped from a tiny car. Still it got it going.

After dropping the patient off, I headed to the mechanics. He tested the battery and said it’s all good. So not sure what the issue is. He did say the cold weather does really affect things. I know the feeling!

So going to see if I can get an immobiliser fitted to see if that helps my battery life.

For now, I’ve had to change the direction I park the lorry so that I can jump it again if needed.

Frozen

I know I sound like a broken record, but my goodness it was cold today. I had to scrape ice off the inside of my car last night when I left the party. That was interesting sitting in the car park waiting till I could see enough to safely drive.

Today I headed back to WHW Snetterton to watch day 2 of lessons. The fields were frozen but the ponies were very happy munching on the hay.

It was lovely catching up with everyone. It was the same jump floor plan as Buddy and I did yesterday. It was really interesting to see how it rode from the ground.

The downside to being on the ground is that I got very cold (even with multiple layer).

It may have taken a while for my feet to thaw out but it was fun watching everyone.
