Welcome to blog! I started it in 2020 to chart my recovery from breaking my ankle (hence the name). I guess no-one saw a global pandemic coming. It's turned into a place where I can talk about the things happening in my life, my horse and my cats. Enjoy!
I am so looking forward to my dinner tonight. These really are the best crispy duck wraps. Thanks The Duck Truck Norfolk . Thankfully it comes with instructions. Just hoping I don’t mess it up.
I’ve earned it too as I did a few hours in the garden before jumping Buddy. Think I burned a few calories today.
An impromptu hack for Buddy and his BFF (Best Friend Frankie). It was a beautiful crisp Autumnal day. It was also like Piccadilly Circus out there. So many walkers, dogs and cyclists out and about enjoying the gorgeous weather.
I took Nero to the vets today. He’s been losing weight recently so wanted to get him checked. After losing Tom in the last lockdown I didn’t want history to repeat itself.
There’s nothing obvious, but the vet agrees there’s something going on. He’s lost 1kg in the past 2 years (which is about a 1/5th of his body weight). She suspects an intestinal issue. He’s still active, eating and drinking. But he’s just not right. So I’ll keep an eye on him.
The vet thinks he has dementia too. My gorgeous boy will enjoy his golden years with me till the time comes.
He was enjoying the sunshine this morning before we headed to the vets.
I had my latest ankle check up today. And my last it seems!
The consultant is very happy with how my ankle has healed. In fact he said it’s the best possible result given the nature of the break. I’ve got a lot more movement that he was expecting. So that’s really good news!
It’s that time of the year when the geese migrate to warmer climes. I always wonder what they’re saying to each other as they fly along.
Makes me giggle thinking there are a few conversations we humans have as we prepare for a big trip…. ‘have you packed the passports?’ ‘did you turn the hair straighteners off?’ and the classic ‘are we there yet?’
After the sunshine of yesterday and balmy temperatures, today was positively Baltic! I couldn’t feel my face by the time I got back from our hack.
Totally worth it though. I’d spent too long in front of my computer the last few days so needed to clear my head.
I’m weirdly OK with the impending lockdown. I know I can handle it. I’ve worked out what works for me. So I will be doing those things to keep me grounded. I’ve been here before so I have a frame of reference. I achieved a lot during the last one. So I know I will be OK.
So the part that’s needed for my little car still hasn’t arrived from Newcastle. I know exactly how far it is but nearly a week is a little extreme.
I’m very grateful that I have my little lorry as it’s meant I’ve still be able to get about. I got a few funny looks doing my meal deliveries this evening. There were a couple of tests of my driving too as I needed to do a few fancy manoeuvres in some small closes.
Everything crossed my little car is fixed tomorrow.
I finished my new border. Just need something to edge it now. Planted up the agapanthus I was gifted and all the allium bulbs I bought. Need a few more bits to fill in but I’m really pleased with it.
This afternoon I had a 2 hour healing massage treatment. Sheer bliss! I am now super floppy.
I wasn’t sure if it would be tempting fate to book a jumping lesson on Halloween. A friend sent me this card as she thought I’d appreciate it. Definitely made me giggle.
The weather did it’s best to make it interesting as driving down the Acle Straight was a tad breezy. Arrived at Humberstone to rain and wind so strong the lorry was rocking!
Thankfully it was worth it as we had a great lesson with Portia. It’s been a long time since we had a lesson with her. Very glad we’ve made a lot of progress since that particular car crash where we barely made it over a jump.
Today, Buddy was keen and eager to jump everything. It seems my patience is paying off.
I need to get my bum in the saddle more. One of my more annoying habits as I hover. Buddy is a different horse when I get it right. And the only easy I can do that is to say bum to myself and I ride round.
