Rug addict

This is what happens when the tail flap comes off your rug, your Mother gets a 15% discount voucher and there’s a sale on. Happy New Rug Day Buddy!!

Yes I know that’s not an official thing. But it could be. My rug addiction has been under control recently. I even sold some. And I haven’t bought a new rug for ages.

Not that I’m justifying my purchase of course. Doesn’t Buddy look smart in it?

Dragonflies

I met up with one of my wise women today for coffee, cake and lots of chats. It always fills me with joy. I’m very grateful to have so many people I can turn to when I need support, advice or just to be listened to. We all need that.

I wasn’t in the best of places last time I saw her. I’ve worked through a lot since then and she was thrilled to see the sparkle back in my eyes.

Saw these and I couldn’t resist them. I love dragonflies. These feel like grown up mugs if that makes sense. I am a big fan of a mug.

Crash barrier

The kittens have been big fans of climbing over the fence in my garden. It needs replacing (it’s on the list) so has seen better days. Every time one of them has climbed over it, the panel wobbles. I was a bit worried they were going to take it down.

Seems they’ve decided that it’s safer to go through the fence! Noticed today that the bottom has been broken to make a rather large opening. Not sure if my neighbour did this or if it was the kittens. Let’s face it, Hugo can be a bit of a bulldozer at times.

Either way, they love running in and out of the garden and next door’s.

Fun facts

It’s amazing the things you find out while peopling. Today I was reading an article all about the benefits of cheese.

Who knew that cottage cheese was so good for you?! Not totally sure I fancy eating it before bed though. But I will definitely look at it differently. Might have to get some to eat after riding…

Sunday stroll

What a lovely way to start the day. A Sunday stroll round Blickling with Katie and Archie.

Buddy and Archie are so cute together. This morning when I went to get Buddy in, I told him we were going to see Archie and he came trotting over.

It was rather busy on the estate. But I guess it’s the nicest Sunday we’ve had for a while. So many people wanted to say hello to the boys too. Can’t believe we both bumped into people we knew.

Got home to watch Brighton v Liverpool in the FA Cup. Managed to avoid the result. I’m so glad I got to watch it without knowing Brighton had won! So all in all a pretty fab Sunday. And a very good one for this Sussex girl!

Murphy

7 years ago I said my final goodbye to Murphy. He was the horse of my dreams. He saved me from myself. After having my first ‘Pip blip’, I realised I needed another horse. A focus. An outlet for my stress. A reason to leave the office.

I’d always wanted to event. But never had the horse to do it. So when I started looking, I was keen to find one to achieve that dream. Murphy ticked every box for my dream horse. 16’2, KPWN, grey, event horse…

When I bought him, I’d never even done a dressage test. Let alone had the first clue how to event or what it entailed. I mean, how hard can it be?! Right?! Very it seems.

One of my strengths is determination. Sometimes to my own detriment. So I put in the hard work and after years of lessons, fall, bruises, highs and lows, we completed our first ODE. I was officially an eventer!

I’m eternally grateful that this gorgeous creature came into my life. He taught me so much. Tolerated even more. I loved him then and I love him still. And I miss his quirks.

He laid the foundations for Buddy. I hope he’s proud of how we’re doing.

Mussels

Lovely evening at the Belgium Monk tonight. I bloody love mussels. So any chance to have them, I’m taking it.

They’re the kind of thing I would never cook at home. I mean, seriously?! I’m culinarily challenged at the best of time. Me cooking mussels has food poisoning written all over it…

It was the perfect end to a very good week.

Meetings galore

Today was all about meeting! Lots of them. I had back to back meeting from 9am to 5:30pm. I haven’t had a day like that for a while.

As they were all video calls, the cats made several appearances of course. They love to get in on the action. If they’re not trying to sit on my lap, they’re thundering round the house. Or joining the conversations by wailing as they play fight.

It made me laugh that’s for sure. Still all of my meetings were very productive indeed! 2023 looks like it could be a very busy year for my business.

Fully charged

Early start for me as I had to take a horse to the vets (not Buddy). The Buddymobile wouldn’t start again. Even though I moved it yesterday for easy loading. And left it running for a while.

Wasn’t sure if I needed a new battery. If something is draining it. Or the cold affecting it.

Jump started it from the Comedy Car. That made me laugh. My big lorry being jumped from a tiny car. Still it got it going.

After dropping the patient off, I headed to the mechanics. He tested the battery and said it’s all good. So not sure what the issue is. He did say the cold weather does really affect things. I know the feeling!

So going to see if I can get an immobiliser fitted to see if that helps my battery life.

For now, I’ve had to change the direction I park the lorry so that I can jump it again if needed.

Pony pats

I’m not sure where today has gone if I’m honest. It’s been a blur! I kind of love a day like that. One where you get to catch up with friends, work and ticking things off my ever growing to-do lists.

Buddy was super cuddly today. He spent a long time grooming me as I groomed him. He’s such an affectionate little boy.
