January

We made it! The last day of January. What a weird month it’s been. Not just for me. It was a reoccurring theme when I was peopling this morning. So many people seemed to have had an odd one.

But one of the clients reminded me of this quote – “Saying goodbye to January means welcoming the next chapter with open arms.” It made me smile.

So here’s to the next chapter. Let’s see what February has to bring…

Tellytubby Hill

How to weird your horse out?! Take him on a ride down a road that has been resurfaced.

This stretch of road is near the yard. We call it Tellytubby Hill. Not a clue who came up with it but it’s apt. On one side, we have the old landfill with lots of pipes and the other a water building. You get the picture.

Anyway, I digress. It’s known to be a bit slippery. So very happy to see it’s been resurfaced. Buddy, not so much. He walked along like it felt weird underfoot. Well I guess it must have been. It looks very different too.

I could almost hear his asking if we’d been down there before. He does make me laugh sometimes. Thankfully he wasn’t bothered by all the road warning signs.

Mums

Today isn’t one of my favourites. Mother’s Day is a bit of a weird one for me. For many reasons. But we all have our stuff, right?! Don’t get me wrong, I’m very grateful that my Mum is still here. I know so many people who’ve lost theirs. It’s just tough.

Mum is now in a nursing home. It’s sad, but totally the right thing for her. It’s a massive change for my parents. They’ve been together since 1966. That’s a long old time.

I haven’t had a chance to go and see her yet. I will. Hopefully she’ll be in good spirits.

It’s been a weird week. I feel like I’ve fallen into an episode of EastEnders (or should that be PipEnders) with the twists and turns. Nothing I can’t handle of course.

As we were out for a hack, I saw my first lamb of 2024. It was all legs! Another Mum to be celebrated.

So tonight I raise a glass to all the amazing Mum’s – past, present or future. You’re amazing.

Iridescent

The sun was so weird today. It was really hazy. It looked like an LED light in the sky.

It was eerily quiet as well. That was actually good. I woke up I’m determined mood and ticked so many things off my list. After a few down days, today was a very productive one.

Pearly whites

I had to do one of my least favourite things today. Go to the hygienist. It’s been over 4 years since I last went so there was a lot to scale. I have sensitive teeth so it isn’t terribly comfortable. And now my mouth feels really weird!

I know it’ll settle down but my teeth don’t feel like mine. Does that make any sense?!

Good job I had a lovely distraction this afternoon when Victoria and Ernie came over for a hack. Ernie had a right march on to start off with. Till he realised he didn’t know where he was going. Buddy was happy to show him the sites.

And I got to show my pearly whites to everyone we met.

Restore

It may have only been a week since I rode last, but it’s felt like longer. This was the perfect tonic to my ‘jet-lagged’ state this morning. Even though I haven’t left the time zone, it’s the only way I can describe how I felt when I woke up this morning.

After a morning of catching up on life, Buddy and I went out for a long stroll. It’s a weird time of the year. I can’t tell what time it is. Or to be honest, what day! This photo was taken at 1:30pm, but felt like 3pm. Weird.

What was also weird was the temperature! It was so mild today. Buddy was dripping when we got back and he’s been clipped. I overlayered too. So we were both hot messes.

Mother Nature is as confused as we are in this weird world. Still, it means I haven’t had to break out the big rugs or thick coats yet.

Weirdness

So it seems that the weather is a weird as the world right now. It’s been sunshine and showers, with a few hailstones thrown in for good measure.

Oh and cold. Did I mention cold?! Spent the day wrapped in a blanket working at my desk. Got my layers wrong when I went to the yard too so started cold, ended cold and took forever to get warm.

Winter is definitely not my favourite season. The sky was very beautiful this afternoon though. There’s still so much green about. Weird.
