Golden fields

Took Buddy over to Blickling this morning to meet up with Katie and Archie. It’s been a while since we met there. It’s amazing how the crops have grown up. They’re almost ready to harvest.

Of course they also make good hiding places. We saw a deer jumping across this field. It makes me smile watching them bounce through the crop. Thankfully away from us…

Fresh

Knowing I had an afternoon of meetings today, I switched things round and took Buddy out for a long hack this morning. It was so fresh. Almost chilly at times. I know right?! One minute it’s like we’ve moved to the Sahara. The next it’s positively nippy.

I’m not knocking it. It was a wonderful relief after the heat. And I’m sure the animals and competitors at the Norfolk tomorrow will be thankful for it too.

It was so quiet out today. Didn’t see a single soul till we were almost back home. Sheer bliss. After my day of rest (well rest for me), this definitely helped to fill my tank back up too.

Bring on the Show Shine… Groom Extraordinaire is ready for action.

Unsettled

I’ve felt very unsettled today. And quite emotional. I know what’s going on so that’s good. I’m working through some deep rooted stuff. Always exhausting. So I did what I always do when I don’t know what to do. I went to see Buddy and took him out for a hack.

That was after I put the magazine I’ve been working on to bed. A phrase I love on many levels. I think it’s so cute that it goes to bed. Not a clue where it comes from. Probably something to do with the old printing presses having beds where the typeset sat. Anyway it always makes me smile. As does finishing the magazine.

Buddy may have bitten off more than he could chew on our hack today. Even when I’m feeling low and emotional, he lifts my mood and makes me laugh. Although he did look like a redneck with cleaver hanging from his mouth.

Mosey

After having 4 days off, it felt very good to be back behind my favourite ears. It was too nice not get out and stretch his legs after a busy few weeks.

On the way back, we pulled over to let a car pass us. The driver wound down her window and told me how envious she was of me getting to ride such a beautiful horse on a beautiful afternoon.

And beautiful it was.

Splish-splash

I took Buddy out for a hack today. There were so many big puddles on our route. It’s always fun to go through them. Buddy was very happy to splish-splash too.

It’s a far cry from the Lake at Badminton. But we had fun. And it was good to be back behind my favourite ears again.

Refuelling

What a difference a day makes! After the howling gales yesterday, today was much calmer.

Buddy and I headed over to Blickling to meet up with Katie and Archie. She treated me to lunch afterwards. I’ve been making a real effort with my fuelling lately. I took a Huel shake with me yesterday for after my lesson. And again today. But let’s face it, a cheese and tomato toastie and a hot chocolate is much better than a shake!

Sunday brunch

Headed off early to meet up with two of my camp friends for a hack round Blickling. We took a different route and were out for two hours! I could have kept going. It was so lovely. We chatted all the way round.

It seemed lots of people had the same idea as the car park was rammed. Two people had parked so close to the Buddymobile, I wasn’t sure how I was going to get out. Thankfully they came back as I was putting Buddy away so I didn’t have to do a 97 point turn.

Honestly, some people have no common sense. My lorry isn’t huge but I do need more than a couple of feet end. I wish I’d taken a photo of it. It really beggered belief. Still no harm done and it didn’t spoil a lovely morning.

Singing in the rain

Buddy and I headed out for a wind assisted hack this morning. It was a tad blustery! Met up with Lottie and Mick again.

Buddy was rather happy to find some haylage while we were waiting. Then he and Mick had a ‘Lady and the Tramp’ moment with it. It was super cute. Buddy looks like a giant next to him.

On the way back, the heaven’s opened. Made me think of the film ’Singing in the Rain’ as Buddy splashed through the puddles.

As luck would have it, it was on the TV this afternoon. So I sang along with it while I pottered around the house. It’s such a wonderful film. I do love a bit of Gene Kelly. It was a very different age. So glamorous. Perhaps we should all randomly burst into song…

High alert

This is the face of a muppet. Who was on high alert today. And bounced round our hack. The local shoot was on and I’d forgotten. Buddy is usually fine with it, but not today. It was terrifying and he wanted to get home as quickly as he could.

Let’s just say it’s a good job my riding tights have sticky bits on them. Buddy was spooking at everything.

Friday feeling

Well this is a view I haven’t had for a while. I’ve been so busy recently that it feels like ages since we went out for a hack round Strumpshaw. It was much needed indeed.

We even had a cheeky canter as the ground is perfect at the moment. That’s something we haven’t been able to do for ages either as the ground has been too hard. If the rain continues, it’ll be too slippery.

Honestly, people wonder why us Brits are obsessed with the weather. It’s cause its so changeable. At this time of year, it feels like four seasons in one day. It’s definitely four outfits too as I feel like I’m layering on and off.
