Bird battle

So today we found out that a seagull is better than a canary! My two teams were drawn in the FA Cup so only right that I pop along to Carrow Road to watch the match. One of those lovely matches where I didn’t mind who won.

It was a bit of a one sided affair, with Brighton proving to be the much better team. Very grateful I wore my Equidry. It was rather cold. Not much opportunity to jump up and down either. I felt it might be frowned upon to celebrate Brighton’s 4 goals…

Big coat

In preparation for the ‘big freeze’, I broke out Buddy’s ‘big coat’. Of course, it will now be much milder than they’re forecasting.

My ‘big coat’ was called into action too. First to take Bert for a walk. I did wait till the sleet had stopped. Then again to lunge Buddy over some raised poles. I say over, he nearly fell over them! Poles on the ground or raised are definitely something we need to work on. And when I say we…

Brass monkeys

What a fab way to start the festive week. A lovely ride round Blickling. It was brass monkeys weather that’s for sure. Where does that saying come from?!

Fear not, we didn’t freeze. Buddy is super fluffy (he desperately needs clipping) and I was toasty in my Equidry.

I wasn’t too warm to forgo my National Trust Mocha when we were done though. It’s sooo good. As were our ponies…

Cold shoulder

Back to reality with a shiver today. It took me ages to scrape all the frozen snow and ice off the Comedy Car before I could head home from Birmingham. I know I’ve spent 3 days running around like a headless chicken, but it did feel like I might have skipped a few months as it was so mild when I arrived.

After yesterday’s long day and massive step count, all 42k of them (nearly 23 miles), my feet looked like they’ve got frostbite. They are very sore and throbbing.

Got home to find my house was a cool 7 degrees! So headed to see Buddy while the hearing did its thing. I definitely got the cold shoulder from him to start off with. But he soon thawed and came over for a cuddle.

I am very, very tired. So early night for me. I’m so proud of what the team achieved over the past few days. It’s getting 5 star reviews!

A little cold

Well it seems that I have brought an extra gift back from camp. I am with snot. Last night, I felt the start of a cold coming on. You know the kind where your head starts pounding and you feel like you’ve been punched repeatedly in the sinuses.

This morning, I felt decidedly crappy. So admitted defeat, stayed in bed and got more sleep. The kittens approved the duvet on the sofa look. They are both snoring. I fear I will be tonight too. I’ve been told I have a cute snore. Tonight I think I might be more warthog than woodland creature.

1 tog

The weather has warmed up considerably over the past few days. That’s resulted in a few broken nights’ sleep as I’ve been overheating. Even with the summer duvet.

I’m not a fan of sleeping uncovered. Last summer I found I was getting cold under an empty duvet cover (call me Goldilocks). So a new lightweight duvet was needed. Just the one tog!

Watch the temperatures plummet and a new ice age decent on the UK. I apologise now…

Swallows

“One swallow does not a summer make…..” Well these two must be wondering what the hell they’ve arrived back to!!

You can just imagine the arguments: “I told you we should have stayed another week…”

It’s always a wonderful sight when the swallows return. Let’s hope warmer weather makes a return too.

Chauffeur

Today I did a good thing. I took a friend and her horse over to Mousehold Farm so that they could have a lesson there. She doesn’t have transport, so I decided to pay it forward. I remember what it was like before I got transport.

I get a warm fuzzy feeling doing a good turn for people. That was about the only warm bit of me! It was blinking freezing! Honestly, I was wearing lots of layer. Felt like we’d either gone back to January.

It’s like Winter and Spring can’t decide who’s turn it is. Let’s hope Summer gets in on the act soon.

Not sure I’ve ever lit the twig burner in April before. At least I’m toasty now.

Porker

One of the glorious things about camp is that I get fed three times a day! This isn’t common place in my world. I know people find it weird that I can forget to eat. But I honestly do!

Seems I make up for it at camp when I practically inhale food! Same can be said for Buddy. He’s loving stuffing his face with haylage.

Good job we’re burning a few calories too. Thought today I shivered a lot off! I was very cold last night. I’ve got an extra duvet for tonight. Today the temperature dropped while I was watching lessons. I had to break out the woolly hat!!

Good job I packed for every eventuality. Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. And all that!

Made it

Well I wasn’t sure if we would get here, but we did. We’re all set for our first training camp of 2024. After the Buddymobile pulling a sicky, then Buddy calling in sick, I was fearing the worst.

But we locked and loaded! Eases Buddy in gently with a stroll round the forest.

It’s a tad fresh so hoping I’ve brought enough layers. Time to snuggle up for the night. Bring on the learning!
