Welcome to blog! I started it in 2020 to chart my recovery from breaking my ankle (hence the name). I guess no-one saw a global pandemic coming. It's turned into a place where I can talk about the things happening in my life, my horse and my cats. Enjoy!
Flying visit to Suffolk to round off a lovely Easter weekend. Simon and Harry have loads of pooches for me to cuddle. At one point I had three dogs trying to get on my lap. Banys won. But only by sitting on his brother Boris! They’re all so cute.
Bailey is still my favourite. He was very happy to see me as always. There’s something really heartwarming about seeing a pack of happy pooches running towards you.
It’s been a lovely Easter. Full of friends, horses, cats and dogs.
After a few aborted attempts, today I finally cut the back lawn. I say lawn, there’s a lot of moss too. It’s needed doing, but trying to find a time when it wasn’t raining has proven tricky. The nicest days I’ve either had plans, been working or quite frankly couldn’t be arsed.
But today I woke up with a weird determination. Good job too as it took bloody ages to do! It was still a bit damp, so not only did I have to keep emptying the mower, I had to clear the mower too as the grass kept getting clogged up around the blade.
Not totally sure it looks better. But it’s a start. Scarifier next. The kittens approve. Though I think they were enjoying hiding and playing in the long grass.
I even spent time doing the edges and made a start on clearing the borders. Of course, I’m now covered in bramble scratches and stinging nettle stings. Still I’m pleased with my efforts.
Next time, I’ll turn my attentions to the front garden.
Today my fever finally broke and my temperature has dropped. Thank goodness! Feeling slightly more human as a result. Still feeling utterly dreadful though. This flu has hit me hard.
Nurses Dodo and Hugo are loving the fact that I’m confined to barracks and pretty much confined to the sofa. They’ve barely left the sofa either. Let’s hope purrs are medicinal.
They say you should starve a fever, well my attitude agreed with that. It’s gone AWOL. Not that I have the best appetite to start off with.
This bug will pass. I’m in the ‘husky voice’ phase. Oh and the ‘bring up a lung’ cough phase.
Anyone else’s cat like marmite crisps?! The kittens go mad whenever I open a packet. I get mugged for them.
I’m a huge fan of all things marmite. I know it’s not everyone’s thing. But it’s very much mine. Nothing like marmite on toast to make the world feel a better place. And let’s face it, we can do with that right now.
It’s been a tough week with one thing and another. So I finished it with a bit of time with my best Buddy. He definitely makes my world better.
Back home after a lovely Christmas in Suffolk. Simon and Harry always make me feel so welcomed. It really is my home away from home. And they’re family for sure!
I was welcomed home by my family. The kittens haven’t left me since I got back. Maybe they missed me. Or maybe it was cause I came home with cat food.
Buddy was pleased to see me too. Maybe he missed me. Or maybe it was cause I came home with haylage.
And so it begins. They’re helping honest. My efforts to wrap Christmas presents have been seriously hampered by chaos and carnage as the kittens will now be known.
They’re having way too much fun playing with the paper, cardboard and boxes. I can’t stop laughing at them. They’re so cute. They really are.
There are many times that I question my life choices. This morning the girls were questioning mine as I donned my wet weather gear and headed out the door. Soon they were very happy to be out for a walk. Me? Not so much, as the wind whipped rain into my face. It wasn’t long before I couldn’t feel my hands either!
I spent the whole walk laughing at the stupidity or hilarity of it all. Guess that’s the difference between cats and dogs. I can guarantee that the kittens would have not left the house!
As I wasn’t wet enough, I headed to the yard where the drenching continued. Rode Buddy in the indoor arena. Typically as we finished the sun came out. Not for long though as by the time I left to go and feed the cats, the rain was back and the wind had picked up.
Anyone else’s cats queue up for pizza?! Just mine huh? I was off to Carrow Road tonight to watch Norwich City play. I was running late, so threw a pizza in the oven while I got ready to go.
Believe me there was a lot of debating on layers and coats! As a result, I burnt half the pizza. The other half was like molten lava, so I burnt my tongue and the roof of my mouth.
Once at the game, I thought I get a hot chocolate. Yes, you guessed it, I burnt my mouth. Again. Seriously, I’m 53! You’d thought I’d have learnt by now.
Sadly the hot chocolate was the highlight of the game.
I had a rude awakening this morning when the front door went at 8am. It was the gardeners for next door. My lovely neighbour had popped round on Monday to ask if I wanted them to do my garden while they were doing his. He’s 98 and flipping amazing.
The front garden has been annoying me for a while now. It gone very wild. So took it as a sign that I needed to get it sorted.
He told me they were coming on Thursday. Seems he got the day wrong. So there’s me walking round the front garden in my dressing gown with the bloke talking about what needed trimming. Not really my forte, so left them to it.
Of course, then I had to listen to hedge trimmers, choppers and all manner of garden equipment. It was slightly distracting and a tad hard to concentrate.
The kittens were less than impressed. Especially when one of the blokes’ dog came through the ‘cat hole’ and ran round the garden. He was having so much fun, he didn’t want to go back.
After they’d left, I thought I’d best go and do a bit of weeding now I could actually see what’s there. Well till the rain came again.
Oh well, at least I have neatly trimmed bushes (insert your own jokes here).
