Welcome to blog! I started it in 2020 to chart my recovery from breaking my ankle (hence the name). I guess no-one saw a global pandemic coming. It's turned into a place where I can talk about the things happening in my life, my horse and my cats. Enjoy!
Dodo has decided that this is his new favourite place to sleep. Technically it’s a magazine holder, but he loves it in there.
Hugo used to sleep in there when he was a tiny kitten. They’re both a bit bigger now though. He kinda fits still.
He crawled in while I was listening to a podcast in the conservatory. It’s becoming a lovely Saturday afternoon habit now. A nice way to relax after a busy day running errands and at the yard. I even managed to pop Buddy over a few jumps – in the sun!!
My meditation wasn’t quite as successful as the kittens decided to have a play fight during it. Bit hard to relax when you’ve got squeaking and wailing going on. Can’t win them all…
Well someone was very pleased to see me when I got back from work. It’s week two of covering at the chiro’s. I’m there four days this week.
Unlike my other cats, the kittens haven’t known me go off to work every day. Sure they’re used to me coming and going, being away and are quite happy to entertain themselves while I’m not here. I know this judging by the amount of fluff and toys on the lounge floor when I get back.
But for most of their lives, I’ve been with them. They’re lovely company. Of course, they have their moment. Like tearing through my office when I’m on a call. Or like tonight having a scrap while I was on a webinar. They do make me laugh.
What do you think Hugo is trying to tell me?! He sat wailing on the food box earlier. The major issue was that he started 4 hours before dinner.
He made his views clear on this too. Rather distracting as I tried to do some work. After a few days of my brain being nowhere able to do any work, it was very good to get the grey cells going again.
I woke up this morning feeling decidedly crappy. Bit of a sore throat and generally with snot. Great. I guess it was inevitable that I’d pick up some bug. I’ve spent rather a lot of time in hospitals recently.
Let’s hope it buggers off as soon as it arrived. Still, I have Lemsip, Vitamins and Nurse Hugo.
I have a mouse in my lorry cab! I kid you not. Only me huh?! I’ve found some droppings. So it’s time for an eviction as I don’t want any cables gnawed.
Off I went to the local hardware shop and bought a humane mouse trap. Let’s face it, I can use all the karma points I can get right now. Two nights I’ve left it in the lorry. Two nights it’s been triggered but no mouse.
So new plan. I brought the lorry home to give it a good clean. While it was here, Hugo took one for the team and got to have a snooze in the cab. It was suggested that the smell of cat might deter a mouse. To be honest, my first plan was to put Dodo in the cab as he’s more of a killer than Hugo. Dodo had other ideas and didn’t want to play ball.
As you can see, Hugo was thrilled! I joined him in the cab for a coffee while I tried to get him to embrace the mouse hunt. He want playing ball either.
The irony is that I’ve saved 3 mice in the past week from the kittens. Maybe word has gotten round that I’m a soft touch.
Anyway, the trap is set for night 3. So fingers crossed the smell of peanut butter is enough to lure the little critter.
Makes me think of the poem: ‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house. Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.’
So water has featured heavily in my day today. Starting with this unfortunate little boy.
Next door’s cat decided to come in for some food. Dodo was super brave and saw him off. Cue cat fight and fluff everywhere in the garden. Sadly Dodo came off worse as he fell in the pond. And I mean completely under! Then came tearing into the house.
Cue me trapping him in the bathroom, trying to dry him off and clearing up the water that was all over my carpets!
Then Anglian Water arrived to swap my meter over. Not the best start as he opened with ‘you won’t know I’m coming today’. Followed by ‘where is your water meter?’
Cue me out in my fluffy Mr Tumnus trousers in the bushes looking for it. It’s not in the easiest place to find. Poor bloke looked rather disheartened when he saw where it was. Still all sorted now.
Finally I kindly put some warm water in a bucket for Buddy to drink as the water is very cold at the moment. He knocked the bucket out of my hands and soaked my legs and feet.
Is this my payback for trying to fix my leaky roof?!
After waiting 21 days, I am now the proud owner of a new shiny Sky Q box. Actually I’m the owner of two! Though Hugo has claimed the second box.
It’s been a very frustrating day though. I was told some time between 8 & 1. So cleared my diary so I could be here. At 11:50 I got a message from a bot telling me there was a delay and they might not get to me today. Argh! Then I got a text saying 12:15 & 2:15. Closely followed by another message to say engineer was on his way. But not from where?!
Finally he arrived and confirmed my Sky box was deceased. So new box it is!
For some reason, they ‘upgraded’ me to Ultra HD and multi room. I felt rather sorry for the poor engineer when he asked where the other TV was. Ummm I only have one. And it doesn’t do Ultra HD.
After a number of live chats and phone calls, I finally found someone who could help. Apparently I’m not the Account Holder. Only been with Sky for 23 years! I had the wrong password. Even though it was OK before. Oh and I couldn’t have had an engineer today as my account is closed. At one point I was transferred to technical support. Why?! Lord help me, I was tearing my hair out.
It turns out that while I’ve been with Sky such a long time, the account is still in my ex-husband’s name. After a decade, they finally allowed me to change this over to my name. So fingers crossed I won’t have so many challenges next time.
They’ve removed the bits I didn’t want or ask for. And they gave me money back for not being able to use my dead box, a discount, Sky Cinema free for 2 months and Netflix for free. Hurrah!
Dodo wasn’t impressed with the thunder today. He climbed up onto my laptop stand and wasn’t moving.
Made it a little hard to work. At least he wasn’t after my mouse. He did that overnight as I woke up to a ‘present’. Thankful I didn’t step on the remnants.
Hugo, on the other hand, was tearing round the garden in the thunderstorm.
I’m not surprised these two are tired. We all had a broken night’s sleep.
I was woken up at 1am by a cat fight on the roof. I thought they were going to come through the roof! Hugo was wailing so loudly. Woke me up with such a start.
Got up to see what was going on. Found Hugo was hiding on the conservatory roof. And Dodo was on the garage roof. Both looked very shaky.
Cue me on some steps checking them. Thankfully they were both OK.
Saw there was another stray cat in the garden. This one only had one ear! Guessing it was involved in the wailing.
The kittens spent most of the day asleep. Needless to say, I didn’t. But I am all packed ready for the start of Big Camp tomorrow.
Dodo has made himself a lovely nest in the daisies. He was so camouflaged it took me a while to spot him. I was going to try and cut back the geraniums and daisies but decide it was probably best to leave them for now.
That and he was sulking after I gave him a wormer. I haven’t dared tell him that he’s getting the flea treatment tomorrow.
