Visiting hours

Bit of deja vue today as I’m back in Haywards Heath visiting my Dad in hospital. FB told me it was a year since I had to drop everything to look after Mum when Dad was rushed in. Sadly we’ve had a few more visits in that year.

Today I got to visit them both! Different wards, but at least the same hospital this time. I’ve had them in different ones before.

They’re both in for the weekend. So looks like I’ll be doing a few visiting hours.

It’s been a stressful few days I can tell you.

Shorn

Someone is looking rather sexy after his clip. I love it when he’s first clipped. He’s so soft.

Clipping with Buddy has been a bit of a journey. He’s not always been a fan to say the least. Today, he got a gold star from Auntie Beki. He got a big kiss and a hug from her as he was the best he’s ever been!

It wasn’t just Buddy who got chopped today. I had my first professional haircut for nearly two years. Feeling much lighter for it too.

A proper pamper day! Much needed too.

It’s a dog’s life

I’ve been dog sitting today, looking after these lovely girls. One of the advantages of running my own business is that I can work anywhere. So it was easy for me to camp out somewhere different for a change.

It was lovely to take them for a run at lunchtime. Well they did the running. I walked in the glorious sunshine.

Another church

Headed over to Hemblington today to meet up with a very wise woman for a walk and talk. Makes a change for me to do the talking on one of these.

I had no idea Hemblington was so pretty. I’ve seen the signpost, but not checked it out. The church is so pretty too. Tiny. It was open so we looked inside.

Then we sat in the graveyard on the bench and put the world to rights. She helped clear a few things in my head. The past few weeks have been curveball after curveball. I’ve felt a little punch drunk with it all if I’m honest.

Being sat in the sunshine and out in nature helped too. I think I must have been a plant in a former life…

Church Tower

Today I got to do something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I got to go inside a church I’ve ridden past for the past 12 years. And climb up to the top of the tower as well.

The latter was up two rather wobbly ladders. I had a wobble on the first one as it was making a very weird noise. But after a few deep breaths and a brain reset, I carried on. So glad I did. The views were stunning!!

I had no idea how pretty the church was inside too. I do love a church. They’re such soothing places.

Fun guy

Spotted this on our hack today. I had to double back to check it. I’m guessing it’s a mushroom of some sort.

Whatever it is, it’s huge!! The size of a human skull. And yes it might have crossed our mind…. Well Halloween is not far away.

Winter duvet

I woke up last night feeling cold. So it was time to break out the winter duvet. Watch us have another heatwave now!

I love the feeling of snuggling up in fresh bedding. And the heaviness of the thicker duvet. It’s such a simple pleasure.

Regardless of what’s going on in my life. Or what time of the day or night I have to get up. I always make my bed. It’s such a little thing. But sets me up for a good day knowing it’ll be ready for me when I head to bed.

Another little outing

Buddy and I headed over to Blickling Estate NT today to meet my friend Katie and Archie for a long hack. Felt very autumnal today as so many of the leaves are turning.

We met up with another friend Maria and her dogs on our way back as she’d come to find us.

Great to catch up with them both. Even better to have a spot of lunch in the sunshine.

I do love our little outings. I’m so grateful for the Buddymobile. I love being able to get out and about. Blickling is so beautiful. It’s wonderful to have the opportunity to ride round.

Two soups

And so it begins. The batch cooking extravaganza. The slow cooker came out yesterday and I made my first batch of vegetable soup. Blended it today and boxed up for the freezer. It was actually six soups. But that wasn’t the Victoria Wood sketch. That was two soups.

For some people, this isn’t a big deal. But for the culinarily challenged Pip, this is. I chopped things without injury. I didn’t burn the house down. And I only got one steam burn from opening the slow cooker a bit too quickly.

This was a big win for me today. On the downside, I ran out of toilet rolls. And no, they’re not connected. 😉

World Mental Health Day

So it’s World Mental Health Day. Well this is the face of a person who has..

  • had bouts of depression
  • had bouts anxiety
  • faced many struggles
  • overcome so much
  • cried so hard they’ve feared they’ll never stop
  • laughed so hard they’ve never wanted it to stop
  • had so much energy they can’t sit still
  • had so little energy they can’t get up
  • thought so much they can’t sleep
  • been so tired they can’t wake up
  • felt like they can conquer the world
  • been scared to leave their house
  • cared too much
  • not cared at all
  • felt such pain they can’t breathe
  • felt nothing but numbness
  • loved deeply
  • been hurt even deeper
  • been a frequent visitor to dark places
  • always found a way back to the light

Mental Health isn’t obvious. It isn’t straightforward. It is something we all have. We shouldn’t need a day to tell us to think about it. It should be part of our daily life.

So let’s all try to look after ours. Do what makes you feel good. Be with people who make you feel good. But most importantly be kind – to yourself and others.

And if you’re struggling right now (as many seem to be), know that you are safe, you are loved and you are very much appreciated.
