Hello old friend

I have to admit, I’m not feeling my best right now. My body aches. My left leg is complaining from being used again. My right leg is complaining from being used to much. I’m feeling over-tired, very emotional and a little off balance right now. Sure a good nights sleep will help. And this will be a good one cause I don’t have my cast on!!

Freedom!

Big day today! I’ve been released from the cast! Woo hoo! OK it feels like I’ve got someone else’s leg and a lizard’s judging by the amount of skin I’m losing. It really is pretty disgusting. To be fair, it hasn’t seen light for over 5 weeks so guess it’s to be expected. And my good leg looks pretty battered as well.

It feels very weird, very stiff but no pain – just lots of tingling as the nerves wake up. There’s some muscle wastage on my calf but the registrar was really pleased with it.

Good news is that it’s healing well and I can weight bear on it. 👏🏻

Bad news is that it’s not fixed yet so I have to wear the support boot for 2-4 weeks. Then gradually move to a shoe. No driving till I’m in a shoe. 😔

Really bad news is no riding for at least another 6 weeks. The risk of damaging the blood supply is too great. That would mean the bone dying and lots of long term complications. 😫

I’m really disappointed but what can I do. If I ride it would be against medical advice and I could really mess it up. So more patience for me… Trust me to have something unusual. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Buddy in action

So after my frustration this morning, I got to leave the house after all. My friend, who’s been riding Buddy for me, came today pick me up so I could watch. Normally he hacks him for me, but today it was so windy he schooled him in the indoor school at the yard. It was really good to see them in action and hear what he was feeling.

It made me a little sad as I want to be riding again. More patience for me to learn. 😂 I’m excited and nervous about my hospital appointment tomorrow. Fingers crossed it’s good news!

Patience

After yesterday’s ‘4 seasons in one day’ I’m sat in the conservatory listening to the wind roar and watching the snow/hail melt. I’m sure there are many people who would love to swap places with me right now, but after 5 weeks, it’s beginning to wear a bit thin.

I’m feeling thwarted today. There’s so much I’d like to do right now, but I’m having to accept I can’t. This enforced rest is exhausting. Right now, I can’t walk far, drive or ride. Sure I can get Sheila out, though I may be wind-assisted today!!

I don’t like to moan. I’m not being negative. I’m being honest. My diary has never been so empty. I keep seeing adverts for clinics, competitions and events I’d love to do. Patience really is a virtue and definitely one I have yet to master.

So today I will try to curb my desire to do and just be. Wish me luck!!

Rough and smooth

I saw this today and it made me smile. I’m having a down day as my ‘good’ ankle is aching from where I sprained it yesterday. It’s making moving around even more challenging! My next check up at the hospital is this Weds so hoping that’ll mean I can weight-bear on my ‘bad’ ankle. That’ll make life a bit easier.

I guess you have to learn how to take the rough with the smooth. Life goes on and I’m sure tomorrow will be better.

Self- care

Day 135: self care comes in many forms. Today has definitely been a duvet day. Hope everyone is safe and well. I spent the morning in the conservatory watching the trees bend in the wind. After I rolled my ankle during ’sickgate’, I retired to the sofa and spent the afternoon with my best friend – my professional strength deep tissue massager. It’s definitely helped with my aches and pains.

Doh!

That interesting moment when you forget you’ve got a broken ankle and jump off the chair to rush across the conservatory as one of your cats is about to be sick. Then you remember try to slow down and as roll over on your good ankle. Seriously?! Now I have a cast on one ankle and a strapping on the other. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Good job I’d planned a duvet day! Both legs elevated now…
