Annual hernia

Yes it’s that time of the year when I risk life and limb, as well as a hernia, lugging the tree in from the garage. I knew it was heavy, but spotted the weight on the side of the box. It’s 65lb (over half a Pip).

No wonder I look like something out of World’s Strongest Man each year. Well that’s a Christmas tradition too!

Every year, I say I’m going to get a smaller tree. Then I put it up and remember how much I love it!

At least I only have to move it twice each year.

Dizzy

So it appears I may have a mild concussion after my fall on Wednesday. Woke up feeling rather dizzy. Took me a while to get vertical without the world spinning. It was very reminiscent of when I had vertigo.

So I cut myself some slack and had chilled day. After doing my meetings and some work, I headed to the conservatory to join the kittens. It was gorgeous in the sunshine. Even though there had been another thick frost.

Yesterday when I got back, I put the ‘ski mask’ on the Comedy Car to help keep the frost out. Needed to pop out this afternoon and it appears that overnight the ski mask had blown off. So still had to scrape the car anyway. Best laid plans. And not great when you’re feeling off kilter.

Ice feathers

I’m loving these ice feathers on my boot room window this afternoon. Isn’t nature amazing!?!

I’m sure one of my clever friends will be able to tell me why this happens. There’s something magical about it.

Wearing a billion layers to leave the house isn’t quite as magical. This cold snap has definitely got teeth right now.

Missed me

Well I think it’s safe to say that I’ve been missed. After spending 11 nights in other people’s beds (not like that smutty), I’m really looking forward to sleeping in my own bed tonight.

After sleeping with two dogs on the bed, I think I will have two kittens on the bed tonight. That’s if Hugo let’s me off the sofa. I’m kinda pinned right now.

Silver linings

Today has been a bad news, good news kinda day!

I headed over to meet a friend for a walk. It was too icy so we cut it short and had a coffee at hers instead.

Got back to find I’d got a flat tyre on the Comedy Car. Drove to the local garage (the tyre needed replacing anyway). They’ve had to order one in for me. Thankfully I could walk up to the yard. And the Buddymobile started so I was able to drive around in that instead.

As a result of all the rushing around, I didn’t get much work done or much off my list. But got a new client, who wants a website rewrite.

Funny how it goes like that… Talk about silver linings.

Log burner hog

Flip is hogging the log burner. Don’t blame her to be honest. I have log burner envy. Compared to my tiny twig burner, this is a beast. And packs out a lot of heat! I’ve needed that after the freezing temperatures of today.

She’s snoring so loudly! But I’m not complaining as she kept me warm last night too. It was -5 when I got up. And there was a really thick frost.

Wonder if we will get snow before Christmas?

Jack Frost

Well Jack Frost certainly made an appearance today. Woke up to a freezing fog and thick frost. It looked very pretty. But didn’t do much for my motivation to leave the cottage.

Headed to the yard to sort my stuff out in the barn. Definitely got my sock choice wrong. Talk about ice blocks for feet!! There was lots of ice at the yard too. And more forecast tonight.

I was meant to be taking Buddy to a clinic tomorrow. But the Buddymobile wouldn’t start. I tried to start it up to check all was OK. But sadly, it doesn’t seem to like the cold either.

Having just watched the forecast for tomorrow, not sure many people will be going far tomorrow…

Thawing out

Today has been mostly about keeping warm. The heating wasn’t working when I was peopling this morning. Which meant that I got rather cold. Then back to check the kittens and another cold house. Then took the girls for a walk in the bracing air. And finally hunkered down in cottage to warm up and work.

The fields behind the cottage was just stunning. It wasn’t just the cold that took my breath away. I am a total country girl at heart. Wide open spaces do it for me.

Having now thawed out, I’m back out in the cold for another Christmas meal. Thankfully, this one is in the warm!

Different kinda lesson

I was due to have a lesson today. But asked if my instructor could pop on Buddy as we’ve been having some ‘creative differences’ with our flat work. Really interesting to see your horse ridden by someone else. Especially by someone who is a much better rider than you. Really interesting as well to hear him say that he was feeling what I’ve been feel. And having the same challenges too.

He ended up riding him for the entire lesson. Easy lesson for me! Buddy had a much harder time of it. Let’s just say I don’t need to worry about Buddy’s fitness levels.

He hasn’t ridden Buddy since I broke my ankle so nearly 2 years. So to hear that he’s improved massively in that time was a lovely bonus!

High alert

This is the face of a muppet. Who was on high alert today. And bounced round our hack. The local shoot was on and I’d forgotten. Buddy is usually fine with it, but not today. It was terrifying and he wanted to get home as quickly as he could.

Let’s just say it’s a good job my riding tights have sticky bits on them. Buddy was spooking at everything.
