Day camper

Buddy, Bert and I locked and loaded early doors today to head over to Forest Edge for two lessons. There’s a camp running there, so we went as day campers.

When we arrived, Buddy headed to his stable (no. 3 for the third time this year) and Bert headed to the forest for a runabout.

As the weightbridge was there, I thought I’d pop Buddy on it. He walked straight on and stood patiently. He was so eager, the poor lady wasn’t ready. He was also rather eager for his treat. He knows the deal. He stands to be weighted and he gets rewarded. He also got a rosette for having a perfect body score. He’s now 643kg.

In our jumping lesson, we ended up being demo riders for the other campers to watch and learn. We flew round the course that was laid out. There were lots of new campers so they hadn’t seen us in action before. Several came over afterwards to compliment me on my jumping position, our partnership and how at one we were. That has not always been the case I can assure you.

I do feel that we’re getting better and better. Now we need to recreate it in competitions. Maybe we can start getting some perfect round rosettes too. Who doesn’t love a red one?!

Carrots

Harvested my carrots today. I say carrots. They’re all pretty small and twisted. Not sure whether the ground was too hard for them. Or if I’m just not good at carrots. Not enough for a meal. But definitely enough for a Buddy treat!

He will be pleased with my attempts no doubt. Let’s hope he doesn’t try to make my ‘greenish’ fingers off in his excitement.

Broom broom

Oh my days, my legs were feeling the past two days this morning. I looked a bit like the love child of John Wayne and the Tin Man walking round! I wasn’t at my usual pace that’s for sure.

But then I rode for the longest I have in some time on Friday. And walked round a huge estate yesterday. Plus lots of driving. It’s kinda understandable why I’m feeling it.

I tried to pick jobs to do today that wouldn’t take much movement. One thing I did need to do was clean out the lorry from Friday. The last few times I’ve cleaned it out, I’ve gotten rather annoyed with my lorry brush. It really isn’t that effective. There’s usually a lot of huffing.

So today, I treated myself to a new lorry broom. I know! I’m just too good to myself.

It works a treat. The label made me laugh. Perfect for removing stubborn debris. Yup that could have been written about Buddy’s poo…

Summer ready

Right Summer I am officially ready for you. Last week, I bought four new pairs of shorts. Today, my lightweight reincoat arrived.

The shorts I have had definitely see better days. They’re too big too. I had some time to kill as I was waiting for my dentist appointment, so off I popped to search for shorts. They were on sale too! Well I guess there’s no that much call for them – with all the rain and cool temperatures.

After getting soaked on Saturday, I treated myself to a riding raincoat. I love my Equidry, but it’s the winter version. So this one is a lightweight version from a different manufacturer. Isn’t the colour lush?!

Let’s see which gets the most use. Cast your votes now people…

Wimpy

I had a blast from the past today in Lowestoft. I didn’t know Wimpy was still about?! This one has had a recent refurb too.

This took me back to my childhood. It was the ‘fast food’ chain my Mum preferred. Why? Because they did one burger that came in a brown roll. I’m guessing that was to make it slightly more healthy.

My nearest Wimpy growing up was in Brighton. So going was quite the treat. That was the thing back then. It was a rarity rather than a food group.

Even now I can remember the excitement. It was waitress service too. Like the American diners you saw in movies. As a kid, I felt rather sophisticated. Oh how things have changed.
