Hot chocolate

It seems lots of things are benefitting from a bit of rain. Especially me. It was much clearer and cooler this morning after the downpour last night.

I could almost hear the plants rejoicing as I wandered round my garden. Amazing how one’s attitude to rain changes when you don’t get any! After weeks of bemoaning it, we’re back to craving it. We are so fickle…

The rose bush I was given to remember Tom and Nero was particularly happy today. So many blossoms and buds. It’s called hot chocolate as I wanted something to remind me of my beautiful black boys. As they both aged, they ended up being more brown and black. This rose has similar hues.

Both of the kittens have made nest either side of it in the border. I wonder if they know that it’s a cat’s rose.

Deluge

The kittens have the right idea. It’s definitely been an indoor day today. Well I say that I was woken up by a rather soggy Dodo this morning.

Hugo got caught out in the thunder and came in demanding to be towelled off.

Dodo wasn’t too impressed with having to share. They’re so cute the way they cuddle up together. I wasn’t too impressed with getting wet at the yard. Again.

Honestly, I think Mother Nature has missed the memo. April showers were so last month…

Elements

This is a lovely way to end a rather random day. Who doesn’t love a rainbow?! I could have done without the torrential thunderstorm earlier as I waited for the farrier. He could have done without it too as he got stuck in traffic getting to us.

Thankfully none of us got soaked. Though I did get trapped in the straw barn while I waited it out. The lightening was so bright and the thunder so loud. I love a good thunderstorm. Call me churlish, but I do prefer them when I’m indoors…

Dancing in the rain

We headed down to Halesworth this afternoon for a lesson with Jo Winfield. She’s one of my favourite instructors. I love my lessons with her at BHS camp. She’s so insightful, knowledgeable and an amazing coach.

So I jumped at the chance to have a private lesson with her. I may have been slightly regretting my sense of adventure when the sat nav took me down some rather narrow roads. But The Buddymobile got us there safely.

I was slightly regretting my decision as well after leaving the yard in beautiful sunshine, to arrive at the venue in rain. Reminded me of that quote about learning to dance in the rain. Well Buddy definitely had his dancing shoes on today!!

Jo was incredibly complementary about our progress. She said she could see that we’ve been working hard on our flat work since she last saw us. And thought Buddy looked very fit and well.

Helps that I’ve finally found a snaffle bit that Buddy seems to like. Long may that continue.

Didn’t care that I got soaked. I came away beaming.

Bit flat

So it seems it was decided that I should have a house day today. Had planned to visit some friends but a flat tyre stopped that. There isn’t a spare in The Comedy Car (you’ve seen the size of it?!). With it being a bank holiday, I wasn’t sure where would be open. So that will have to wait till tomorrow.

Torrential rain was another factor. So I spent the day catching up on house stuff. I ended up having quite a productive day. As well as getting some much needed downtime. I sat in the conservatory, cuddling the kittens, catching up on some training and podcasts.

Oh and listening to the rain.

Peek-a-boo

Buddy has a new favourite spot to shelter from the wind and the rain. He’s a very happy boy there.

Of course I had a minor heart attack when I couldn’t see him in his field. Then his little head popped up from behind the brambles.

He definitely had the right idea though. The weather was beyond weird. Still we managed to avoid the rain showers and pop a few jumps in the sunshine.

Waterproof

Today I found out that my waterproof coat isn’t as waterproof as I thought. But then it was having to deal with a LOT of rain!!

I thought my faithful waterproof trousers had let me down too as my jeans were wet underneath. Till I realised that they were wicking away the water from my base layer and fleece. Damn you science!

At least my feet were dry. My muck boots have a spilt in them. Thankfully I noticed so put different boots on.

Think it might be time to invest in a new waterproof coat….

Singing in the rain

Buddy and I headed out for a wind assisted hack this morning. It was a tad blustery! Met up with Lottie and Mick again.

Buddy was rather happy to find some haylage while we were waiting. Then he and Mick had a ‘Lady and the Tramp’ moment with it. It was super cute. Buddy looks like a giant next to him.

On the way back, the heaven’s opened. Made me think of the film ’Singing in the Rain’ as Buddy splashed through the puddles.

As luck would have it, it was on the TV this afternoon. So I sang along with it while I pottered around the house. It’s such a wonderful film. I do love a bit of Gene Kelly. It was a very different age. So glamorous. Perhaps we should all randomly burst into song…

Fair weather

One last trip round Blickling with Katie and Archie this morning. We checked the weather forecast yesterday and it said it would be dry. It lied. It was very wet indeed.

We waited in the car park to see if it was going to clear up. It definitely eased. So we headed off. As is the law of sod, we were at the furthest point away from the lorries when the heavens opened and we got soaked.

Blickling is such a beautiful place. Here’s to more adventures in 2023.
