New season

Super sub was called into action early doors – first game of the season. I love the first game of a new season. So much hope, optimism and excitement. It lasted about 83 minutes…. We lost.

There’s a long way to go though. So let’s see what the rest of the season brings. Honestly you have to ride the emotional rollercoaster of being a football fan. Or any kind of sporting fan really. It’s rarely straightforward.

At least the half-time snacks were good. Least said about the coffee the better… Let’s hope that improves as the season goes on too.

Little Lodge

What a fabulous way to spend a Friday afternoon. Wandering through the forest with lovely friends and horses.

It’s been a long time since I came to Little Lodge. Last time was with Murphy so shows how long ago it was. Buddy was very happy to be out and about. Well when we got there. There was a hold up on the A11, so my sat nav rerouted us. Unfortunately it sent me on a magical mystery tour of Thetford Forest. Some very small, windy roads and an equally small bridge to cross. Then I missed the entrance. So after another u-turn, we made it. And to think I thought I would be really early!!

Poor Buddy arrived a bit like a milkshake. And the Buddymobile was very hot and bothered with it all. Thankfully once we got onboard, it was a much calmer affair.

It’s the longest I’ve spent in the saddle for a very long time, so I was feeling it when we got back. Sure Buddy will be feeling it too. At least he gets a day off tomorrow. I, on the other hand, will be walking round Burghley. My legs might be on strike by Sunday.

Spring forward

I’m 53 years old. You’d have thought by now that I would have mastered the whole clock change thing. In my defence, the clocks in my house aren’t helping matters.

Last Sunday, my alarm clock sprang forward unexpectedly. That resulted in me getting up an hour early – without realising it.

I manually adjusted it so it was correct.

Today, said alarm clock decided for some unfathomable reason to fall back an hour. So I lost two hours!

Yes it should automatically update like my phone does. Not a clue what’s going on there!

Seems the weather is a tad confused too. After a beautiful Spring Day yesterday, we’re back to Winter vibes. Yesterday I was full of the joys. Today I wanted to hibernate. My planned garden day turned into a house day. And yes, there was a lot of clock changing going on…

Beat the heat

Up early today to beat the heat and meet Katie over at Blickling. We were in the saddle by 9:45am. And I’d mucked out before driving there. First time I’ve beaten Katie there. The traffic was very kind. Well for me.

There are so many paths through the woods, that for the most part, we were in the shade. It was blissfully cool in there.

The humidity soon started to build though so headed back for an afternoon of meeting. Then back to the yard as Buddy had the farrier. It was much cooler so decided to poo-pick his field.

Turns out, it wasn’t as cool as I thought. My brain was obviously a bit fried. I spent 10 mins looking for my car keys. Feared I’d dropped them in a field. Only to find them sitting on my car seat. With the windows open. Good job the yard is in a safe area. Though not sure there are many people who’d want to steal the Comedy Car.

Lost at FEA

Arrived at Forest Edge for our latest training camp. Buddy is such a pro at camp life. And so am I. It doesn’t feel that long ago that we were here before. Well I guess it has only been a few weeks. Feels very good to be back.

We took the horses out for a leg stretch before the welcome BBQ. We honestly didn’t get lost. We just took the slightly scenic route. Pip Nav was actually right. But we ended up adding on an extra loop. Made it back for foo though.

We’re not lost, you are?!

Looking forward to the first lessons tomorrow. Bring on the learning, aching and sweating…

Lost & found

A few weeks ago, I lost my favourite yard hat. It may be a little thing, but it was also a hat that I bought in Boston. So it had a bit of sentiment to it too.

This morning I was lamenting my lost hat as the one I put on was very uncomfortable. I‘d searched high and low for it. I guessed it must have fallen out of my car at some point.

So imagine my surprise when I drove to the yard a different route and saw a hat stuck on a post. I stopped as I knew I’d been that way before and it was indeed my hat!!

It looked like it had been through the mill a bit. Nothing a trip in the washing machine won’t sort. So happy to have it back.

Jeff!

Today I headed over to Thetford Forest to meet up with my friend Julie. We haven’t seen each other since July 2019! A lot has happened since we last caught up. And not just Covid.

It was so wonderful to catch up. And I got to meet her JRT Jeff. Oh my days, he’s adorable!

We walked and talked for over 3 hours round the forest. We definitely chose to do an extra loop. We definitely didn’t get lost…. 😉
