Frozen nuggets

One of the advantages to a sharp frost is that it makes poo picking so much easier. Love collecting all the frozen nuggets from Buddy’s fields.

They’re lighter as well so the barrow isn’t too heavy. The mud’s frozen, so no getting stuck or sliding about.

The downside – I can’t feel my face, hands or feet. And it takes hours to thaw out. Me, not the poo. As an equestrian in winter, I’ll take any little win I can.

Bitter

This was the scene I woke up to. And now it’s snowing out there. It has been so cold today. The kind of cold that is best appreciated from indoors, with a fire and a hot chocolate.

By the time I’d finished at the yard, my eyeballs were cold. At least I could come home to a fire and a hot mocha.

The kittens on the other hand have been having a whale of a time – sleeping in the warm! Not sure they’ve actually left the house today.

Verglas

My heart sank a little when I opened the curtains this morning. A heavy frost and thick white mist greeted me. After such a glorious few days, it really felt like Spring was on the way. It wasn’t long though before the sun broke through.

I spent most of the day on calls. The last one, I sat in the conservatory basking in the sunshine. And I spotted the tiniest glimpse of pink on the camellia buds. I must admit I got very excited about that! Thankfully the lady I was talking to completely understood. And retorted with a very large fox peeing in her garden. I love random conversations.

Log burner hog

Flip is hogging the log burner. Don’t blame her to be honest. I have log burner envy. Compared to my tiny twig burner, this is a beast. And packs out a lot of heat! I’ve needed that after the freezing temperatures of today.

She’s snoring so loudly! But I’m not complaining as she kept me warm last night too. It was -5 when I got up. And there was a really thick frost.

Wonder if we will get snow before Christmas?

Jack Frost

Well Jack Frost certainly made an appearance today. Woke up to a freezing fog and thick frost. It looked very pretty. But didn’t do much for my motivation to leave the cottage.

Headed to the yard to sort my stuff out in the barn. Definitely got my sock choice wrong. Talk about ice blocks for feet!! There was lots of ice at the yard too. And more forecast tonight.

I was meant to be taking Buddy to a clinic tomorrow. But the Buddymobile wouldn’t start. I tried to start it up to check all was OK. But sadly, it doesn’t seem to like the cold either.

Having just watched the forecast for tomorrow, not sure many people will be going far tomorrow…

Winter Wonderland

While Winter isn’t my favourite season, I do love the frosty sunny days. There’s something magical about the warmth of the sun against the cold crunch of the frost.

This morning it was a whiteout. But soon the sun was streaming in through the conservatory. Just beautiful.
