Robin Hood

I’ve felt wrung out today. All of the emotions from yesterday (and the past few weeks) have taken their toll. My Dad was feeling the same. So we watched one of my Mum’s favourite Disney film, Robin Hood.

I’ve seen it so many times, I practically know all the words. When Prince John gets called ‘PJ’, it always makes me smile. I’m a PJ too. So it was a running family joke when I was a kid.

The subject matter is a bit topical too. The nation being taxed to the brink isn’t new it seems. Very sad that we have seemingly learnt so little from history. Back then it was fund wars and conquests. Now, I’m honestly not sure what it’s to fund?!

I wonder how much I’ve paid in taxes so far in my life. A lot more than I’ve spent I’m sure. At least in Robin Hood’s time, the taxes were more obvious. Now they’re so widespread, it’s hard to even tell what you’re paying out.

I know I’m in a heightened emotional state, so forgive me if I’m off here, but the world seems very weird right now. What is it they say about the two things in life you can count on – death and taxes.

Thank goodness for Disney and a bit of escapism.

Groggy

I woke up full of snot, tight chest and generally feeling groggy.

It’s been a hugely emotional week. It’s all affected me more than I imagined. On the back of a very stressful and busy period with work. I’m physically, mentally and emotionally exhausted.

So I admitted defeat and did a version of self-care. Hot shower, chicken & mushroom Pot Noodle and a Disney Pixar film. Followed by Strictly. Before I head to bed.

A massive thank you to everyone who’s checked in on me. I hate feeling like this. I know it’ll pass. Grief is so individual.

Rain check

Today has been a day of two halves. Needed to drop the Comedy Car at the garage first thing. I realised that neither of my headlights were working.

Of course I realised this when I needed to drive half an hour home in the dark! That was interesting. I was able to get home using my sidelights and fog lights. Not my best look!

One bulb had gone. The other was out cause the wires had melted. Who knew that could happen?!

Still I now have two working headlights. And a road legal car again.

While I waited for it, I got a tad wet at the yard. But at least I got all the jobs done I wanted to. Including cleaning the lorry.

Came home feeling decidedly snotty. It was inevitable that the past few weeks caught up with me. So I took a raincheck this afternoon and flopped on the sofa watching a film.

Fingers crossed tomorrow is a better day. Let’s hope the sun shines and the rain (and snot) stays away.

Grasshopper

Got home today to find a grasshopper on my conservatory roof. As you do. It made me laugh and think of watching Kung Fu when I was a child. ‘Choose wisely Graasshopper’ was one of the sayings from the series. This grasshopper choose very wisely as he avoided the rain (and kittens).

Also made me think of one of my favourite animation films – Kung Fu Panda. There’s a theme there me thinks. The films make me laugh.

This little fella was released back into the garden where he hopped off into the grass.

Lapdogs

My dog sitting duties are over. They were exceptionally well behaved. Took them out for an early walk to beat the heat. Thankfully there was a cooling breeze as it’s been a tad warm again.

I was at a bit of a loose end this morning. I felt very decadent as I had nothing to do. So the dogs and I watched a film called ‘The Sea Beast’. It was an animation and really sweet.

When I got home, I pottered in the garden for a bit (before I got too hot). Then went and gave Buddy a bath (and I didn’t mind getting sprayed too).
