Pow wow

All seems right in the world when I’m behind these ears. That’s for sure. It also helps to have great company, interesting conversations and sunshine!!

It’s been a bit of an odd week all told. Not my best. But far from my worst. I saw a display of Mother’s Day cards in the shop. It suddenly hit me that I will never have to buy another Mother’s Day card. Such an odd feeling…

Grief really is a strange process. So unpacking things slowly and kindly. The sunshine definitely helps…

Zoomies

As Bert has been doing so well with his recall, we’ve been experimenting with him being more free-range on his walks. Just for a few minutes to test the water. As a spaniel, he’s driven by his nose, so loves a good sniff. So this way he can sniff without getting caught round a tree!

Today he was in full zoomies mode. He made me laugh as he was tearing back and forth. His ears were flapping so much, he could have taken off!

Just call him Bert the Blur!

As well as he’s doing now, I’m preparing myself for the next phase when he forgets everything he’s learnt…

Reverse curtains

It felt very good to be back behind these ears tonight. I’d love to say he was a wild beast after four days off. He could barely drag himself away from his hay.

He did have a sudden burst of energy when a deer startled in a wheat field and ran across the road. It was short lived though.

As we were walking back, I noticed that his forelock looked like it has been tucked behind his ears. Sort of reverse curtains. He didn’t seem bothered. Made me laugh though.

Ears of corn

The maize has shot up since we’ve been away. It’s now over our heads. I love the swishing noise as it blows in the breeze. Buddy, not so much. His little ears were going like a radar dish.

He’s had a few days off after Hickstead. It was lovely to take him out for a quick leg stretch between meeting.

On the way back, we stopped to pick a few fat, juicy blackberries. Today felt rather Autumnal. So much for the British Summer.

Reboot

Oh how I’ve missed this view. The world really does look a better place through a horse’s ears. I think you could probably see my smile from space it was that big.

And what a day for it too. Felt like Spring was in the air for sure. I had to pinch myself that it’s still only February.
