Catch me

Bert is off to Badminton Horse Trails next month. I’ll be there too. I know I get on really well with the people I’m going with. Bert is a bit of an unknown quantity. So today he met the two dogs he’ll be going with.

Rambo wasn’t that fussed about Bert. He preferred to mooch round the dog park enjoying the sniffs. Buster, on the other hand, was very happy to run around like a loon chasing him. So funny watching them tear around and play.

I’m very relieved that they got on. A little bit too much as Bert tried to hump both of them. A tad embarrassing. He’s a raging sea of hormones at the moment. The joys of adolescence eh? Let’s hope that’s calmed down otherwise it’s going to be an interesting trip…

Thumper

Bert loves a carrot. He found one on the yard and happily ate it up.

It seems that he might have been channeling his inner rabbit a bit too much though. He’s going through a hormone burst and has become something of a humper.

He’s tried humping me, but that didn’t work. Tonight, we went over to a friend’s for dinner. And to meet her two dogs. One of whom, Bert took quite a shine to. Well judging from the fact he tried him to mount her several times. This was after a rather vigorous play session. Thankfully, Bert hasn’t got a clue what he’s doing (I’ve had a few dates like that).

He was trying to hump her head… At least I got dinner first.

Approval

Bert met the girls today. They’re two of the lovely dogs that I housesit for. It’s really good for him to start meeting other friendly dogs. Blimey he looked tiny compare to them. Even Flip who’s not the biggest. They were very sweet with him.

Afterwards, their owner, Jan and I popped to the garden centre while Bert had a nap. She secretly bought this sign for me. I was given a similar one for the cats many years ago. So seems guests will now have to be approved by us all!

Bedraggled

Took my charges out for a long walk this morning. In the rain. So we came came back rather bedraggled. All three of us have curly hair (or fur in their cases). Let’s just say we were all rocking the Poodle Perm by the time we’d finished.

I’m showing my age now. Who else remembers the Poodle Perm?! Please tell me it’s not just me? Even though my hair is curly. I still had a perm at one point. I vaguely remember doing a home kit as well. Cause that was what we did in the 80s.

Not that it made much difference. I was aiming for a spiral perm then. Now I just need a touch of rain or humidity and I have it naturally. Much easier. And less chance of losing an eye or chunks of hair.

Sausages

I met a friend for brunch this morning. I might have mentioned I’m a fan of brunch. Especially when this is the view.

Decided to push the boat out and have more than just a breakfast bap. I had ‘The Greenhouse’. Yes it was mostly veggies. But I swapped the vegan sausages for proper ones.

I don’t eat much meat, but I’m partial to a sausage (insert your own jokes there). I only ate one, opting to split the other one between my friend’s dogs. They were very happy with that deal! I has eyes bigger than… Let’s just say I didn’t need much for dinner.

Pooches

Flying visit to Suffolk to round off a lovely Easter weekend. Simon and Harry have loads of pooches for me to cuddle. At one point I had three dogs trying to get on my lap. Banys won. But only by sitting on his brother Boris! They’re all so cute.

Bailey is still my favourite. He was very happy to see me as always. There’s something really heartwarming about seeing a pack of happy pooches running towards you.

It’s been a lovely Easter. Full of friends, horses, cats and dogs.

Dog walks

Today I got to walk with three dogs. First I headed over to meet Natalie and her two pooches.

We met somewhere I’ve driven past many times, but I had no idea it was called The Mystical Woods. What a wonderful name for a very wonderful place. If a bit soggy. There were some rather large puddles to splash through. And that was just her Labrador.

Then it was home to take my oversized Labrador for a walk. No puddles for him though.

My saddle is ready to collect, so that’s on the list for Monday. Buddy will be thrilled that his semi-retirement is over. I definitely will be happy to get back in the saddle.

Cats and dogs

There are many times that I question my life choices. This morning the girls were questioning mine as I donned my wet weather gear and headed out the door. Soon they were very happy to be out for a walk. Me? Not so much, as the wind whipped rain into my face. It wasn’t long before I couldn’t feel my hands either!

I spent the whole walk laughing at the stupidity or hilarity of it all. Guess that’s the difference between cats and dogs. I can guarantee that the kittens would have not left the house!

As I wasn’t wet enough, I headed to the yard where the drenching continued. Rode Buddy in the indoor arena. Typically as we finished the sun came out. Not for long though as by the time I left to go and feed the cats, the rain was back and the wind had picked up.

As suspected, the kittens were both sleep…

Uni-corn

Today is a bit of an exciting day. It’s the day the maize is harvested. As much as I love the maize, it gets so high that it nearly engulfs us when we’re riding by it.

Buddy will be pleased when he sees it’s gone. Of course he’ll be weirded out to start off with.

I didn’t get to show him today. But I drove past it a few times today. I’ve perfected the triangle between home, the yard and my dog sitting duties.

Buddy was very pleased to see Auntie Sam for his massage. He had quite a few tight spots so hopefully he’s feeling looser now. It had been a while since his last appointment.

Hopefully he’ll be nice and refreshed when I get back from my next adventure. More on that tomorrow.

Snoring symphony

This is one of my doggie charges, Flip. She’s snoring in my arms. The other doggie charge, Bailey, is snoring in the corner. I’m being treated to quite the snoring symphony! It always amazes me how much dogs actually sleep.

I’d say they’ve been supportive team mates as I worked this afternoon, but they’ve been sleeping on the job. It’s just like being at home. Except louder.

Funny how an animal snoring is cute whereas a person snoring is murder inducing. Though I have been told I have a cute snore, so make of that what you will.
