Many hands

This phrase always makes me think of my Nanna. She was a firm believer in rolling up your sleeves and getting it done. This evening, I did just that as I made a visit to Gingerbreadland. I haven’t been there for a while. And my god, the smell is still heady!

They’d got a big order so I offered to lend a hand. Well two in fact. 4.5 hours later…

I got to help with the Buddy biscuits. Fear not people, I was packing only! They’re not that trusting of my culinary skills. Even I can mess up packing.

Still makes me smile knowing the visitors at Redwings can buy gingerbread biscuit based on Buddy’s head. So cool.

Birthday antics

Buddy Boy turned 14 today. Sadly it wasn’t the best weather for him. Rather damp as we headed out for our walk.

Usually we’d go for a long ride together. This year it’s a bit different. I wonder if Buddy minded. I definitely missed it. I didn’t miss Buddy acting like a 3 year old when he heard the steam rally. Cause he’s never heard that before!

Probably not my best plan. We didn’t go that close. And assumed that as he’s experienced it 7 years now, he’s be OK. That was my first mistake. Never assume with horses. Or it could have been the boy racer car backfiring. We had it all today. And we were only out 15 mins.

I did get back in the saddle today though as a friend let me ride her horse. Maybe that was Buddy’s birthday treat too? He looked quite surprised when spotted me.

Happy Birthday Buddy Boy. You really are My Absolute Diamond.

Infrared

Today Buddy was infrared scanned. Nothing to worry about, just a precaution and out of curiosity.

I had to plait his mane out of the way. I gave him a little top knot for his forelock. He was so funny as when I tried to take it out, he was having none of it. He obviously wants to be a fashion icon of the yard. Got it out eventually.

The sweetest thing was Big Buddy finally got to meet Little Buddy. Little Buddy is a Shetland pony who belongs to my friend. There was a definite bromance started today.

It was the most adorable thing. I’ve not heard my Buddy ‘chat’ to another horse like that. They were grooming each other. It made my heart burst seeing them together.

If Buddy ever needs a Buddy, I think he’s just found one. In Shetland form.

Sunday stroll

Headed over to Blickling Estate NT this morning to meet up with camp mates Katie Hall and Vicky Mary (and her daughter Jasmine). It was only last week that we were together at camp, but felt like longer. So great to catch up.

After an hour plus stroll round the estate, I introduced Jasmine to the now famous National Trust Hot Chocolate. Let’s just say she’s an even bigger fan of Blickling after that!

Her pony got a lot of attention too. He was very happy to say hello to the other children we met on our route. And we met another Buddy. This time a dog. He was a very good boy on his first time meeting the horses.

My Buddy’s ears pricked up when everyone said ‘good boy Buddy’. Which of course he was. In fact they all were. And so we’re us girls.

Friday feeling

After a long day on the laptop, spending time with Buddy was just what I needed. Wasn’t expecting the rain though. It was so loud on the roof. Very grateful for the indoor school.

All in all it’s been a pretty good week. I’m definitely looking forward to the weekend.

My Valentine’s

I don’t need a rose.
I don’t need a card.
I have this gorgeous boy,
Waiting at the yard.

He makes me smile each day.
He makes my dreams come true.
And while he’s in my life,
I know I’ll never be blue.

Buddy sends kisses to anyone who needs them today. Happy Valentine’s Day.
