Favourite spot

Hugo is loving the warmer weather. He’s also loving the fact the garden furniture comes out. He staked his claim to the garden chair today. He was most upset when I turfed him off it so I could eat my lunch. He was back on it before I’d made it back to the conservatory.

He was still there when I got back from the yard. Nearly 4 hours later!!

I’m with him on the warmer weather. Things seem so much better when the sun is shining. Buddy got a bubble bath today. Though he was more interested in the grazing afterwards to dry off. Typically he kept wanting to eat the bits in the shade. He was very appreciative of the cow parsley and cleavers. It really is the simple things in life.

Not cricket

Blimey it’s been hotter than Satan’s armpit today! I thought I’d treat Buddy to a bubble bath this morning. Well you’d think I was trying to kill him from his reaction. Funny boy.

He was not happy at having his mane or tail washed. And tried to trash his new shoes by scrapping the ground in disgust. Still he looked very smart after a tidy up post-bath. And I was very happy to get wet!

He retired to his field. While I retired to the shade with the kittens and a few good podcasts. There are so many crickets in the garden. Found this chap on my car chirping away.

It was a little bit like being on holiday. Sat in the heat, listening to them. Headed indoors to watch England in the football and now the rugby. No cricket though. I’ll leave them outside.

How we roll

This is such a horse thing to do. He has a lovely bath, tail and mane wash and he doesn’t even wait for me to leave his field before he drops and rolls.

He was looking lovely and shiny after a great jumping session in the morning sunshine. Not so much after his exuberant roll.

Watching a horse roll really is a weird thing. They’re so graceful on four legs. Buddy look like some sort of demented ninja turtle rolling. And then there’s the old man groan as he gets up. Always makes me laugh.

John Wayne

Buddy had his first bath of the year. He needed it after our rather intense lesson. One of us was a tad fresh and one of us had to do a lot of sitting trot. I’ll let you guess who was who.

Let’s just say Buddy was still in XC mode. Now as much as it’s good to have forward, we also need rideability. There’s always a balance to be struck.

Still we got some wonderful trot work by the end of the lesson. I may be walking like John Wayne tomorrow. Definitely found new muscles. There are some times when I wish I could have a bath too. At least the hot shower helped.

Lapdogs

My dog sitting duties are over. They were exceptionally well behaved. Took them out for an early walk to beat the heat. Thankfully there was a cooling breeze as it’s been a tad warm again.

I was at a bit of a loose end this morning. I felt very decadent as I had nothing to do. So the dogs and I watched a film called ‘The Sea Beast’. It was an animation and really sweet.

When I got home, I pottered in the garden for a bit (before I got too hot). Then went and gave Buddy a bath (and I didn’t mind getting sprayed too).

Progress

I’m having to post this a day late due to the Facebook outage. What was that about?! Shows you how much we rely on technology huh?

I’m still feeling crappy but managed to get to the yard. Lunged Buddy and gave him a bath as he’s being clipped tomorrow (today even).

I know I’m biased, but he really is a handsome boy. 😍

Shiny boy

Someone was looking super handsome after his bubble bath today. Admittedly he acted like I was drowning him during it. He does make me laugh. He hates having his face washed. Is that a gelding thing?! I’ve had several the same.

His mane looks so much better after a spot of Head & Shoulders. It really does the trick.

Cleavers

It was bathtime for Buddy today. It’s been so hot, I thought it would be a nice change for him.

Took him for a graze while he dried off. He found a pile of cleavers (or the sticky plant to you and me). He went mad for them.

We were talking about them last week at camp. That’s when I found out they were called cleavers. Love a new fact!

Happy place

This feeds my soul more than anything else. Me and my boy out for an afternoon stroll. Everywhere looks so lush and green. It was great to feel the sun on our backs too.

Hardly a soul out either. Sheer bliss!

Gave him his first full bath of the year too. His mane was disgusting. Buddy made his feelings known on the situation by standing on the shampoo bottle. 🤦🏻‍♀️ So we now have a very clean yard floor. 🤪
